Senator Orji Kalu reveals how much he gave Obasanjo in 1998

Former governor of Abia state and serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Orji Kalu has revealed that in 1998 that he gave former military head of state, Olusegun Obasanjo the sum of $1million and five hundred million naira to the People’s Democratic Party ahead of the nation’s general elections following its return to civilian rule. He said he gave Olusegun Obasanjo the sum of $1million after his release from prison and to support his 1999 presidential ambition.

The former governor of Abia state who spoke on Channels Tv’s politics today, hinted that he was stupendously wealthy before venturing into politics. According to him, at the formation stage of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 1998, he took the decisive action to fund the party through his personal money. He said only a few Nigerians such as Atiku Abubakar and TY Danjuma could comfortably afford such an amount of money at that point.

The former Abia governor made this revelation while reminiscing his contribution to the Nigeria’s political developments and democratic values.

He said he believes in Nigeria and that the country will be reformed to ensure improved standard of living for the poor.

According to him, he is optimistic that Nigeria will soon become a nation with good standard of living and good road infrastructure.

Reacting to Nigeria’s charged political atmosphere, Orji Kalu noted that it is his mindset to unite all Nigerian politicians for a unified national interest rather than the ongoing rat and cat relationship between politicians. He said it would be part of national project to have all major Nigerian politicians united by common interest for the benefits of the poor Nigerians. According to him, it implies having Atiku Abubakar, president Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Peter Obi and other politicians unified by national interest rather than power tussle.
