SDP unveils 2027 blueprint, replaces Oyo governorship candidate

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has intensified its preparations for the 2027 general elections with major political moves at both the national and state levels, unveiling its presidential governance blueprint in Abuja and ratifying a key candidate substitution in Oyo State.

At the national level, the party’s presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, presented the SDP manifesto, titled: “Farewell to poverty and insecurity: Governance and accelerated development blueprint of a new Nigeria (2027–2031),” at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. At the event were the Chairman of Chairmen, SDP Forum, Femi Ferare; SDP Vice-Presidential Candidate, Dr Usman Bugaje; and Adebayo’s wife, Lillian.

Adebayo declared that foreign intervention will not resolve Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges, urging citizens to demand direct accountability and embrace home-grown solutions.

Critiquing systemic corruption and leadership failures, Adebayo pledged that an SDP administration would eliminate internal divisions and restore state functionality within four years.

He outlined key targets, including generating 75,000 megawatts of electricity, restoring domestic oil refineries, lowering fuel prices to N200 per litre, and addressing currency depreciation caused by financial mismanagement.

SDP National Chairman, Prof. Sadiq Abubakar Gombe, reiterated that the primary purpose of government is security, citizen welfare, and economic productivity.

He emphasised that public office must not be treated as private property, outlining a three-pillar framework based on security, productivity, and prosperity.

Convener of the Initiative for Better Nigeria, Prophet Isa El-Buba, endorsed Adebayo’s platform, calling it an essential roadmap to rescue the nation and announcing immediate grassroots mobilisation across campus networks and geopolitical zones.

Also yesterday, the SDP in Oyo State moved to consolidate its local structure ahead of 2027.

During a substitution plenary in Ibadan, held in line with electoral guidelines, the party ratified Mogaji Olusegun Agboola as its new governorship candidate, replacing Mr. Michael Okunlade.

Agboola told reporters that the SDP ticket is not open to political negotiation or bargaining.

He stated that the party is competing to win control of the state, pledging to replace “pedestrian thinking” with system-based governance to turn Oyo State’s human and material resources into sustainable economic opportunities.

Agboola also expressed readiness to debate rival candidates on policy and urged aggrieved members to rejoin the party under an open-door policy.

Okunlade, the outgoing candidate, congratulated Agboola and praised party members, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and security agencies for a peaceful transition.

He urged the new standard-bearer to focus on grassroots mobilisation across all 33 local government areas.

Okunlade further emphasised candidate loyalty, warning against candidates who abandon party structures after securing nominations.

While addressing allegations raised by another aspirant, Chief Saheed Oladele, Okunlade urged aggrieved members to use democratic channels for resolution while noting he would take legal action if statements against him crossed into defamation.

With the launch of its national blueprint and the restructuring of state leadership, the SDP aims to present a united front, offering a self-reliant policy framework for Nigeria and positioning itself as a strong challenger in the 2027 elections.
