Russia Rains 70 Missiles, Drones On Ukrainian Cities, Killing At Least 11 — Zelenskyy

A site of overnight Israeli airstrikes is pictured in the southern suburbs of Beirut on March 6, 2026. Heavy attacks were reported in Tehran on March 6 after Israel said it was hitting “regime infrastructure” in a “new phase” of the war it launched with the United States against Iran. As the conflict entered its seventh day, its regional repercussions continued — with Qatar saying it intercepted a drone targeting a US base, and Lebanon reporting the death toll from Israeli strikes had risen to 123. Zelenskyy said the attacks struck residential buildings and critical infrastructure across Kyiv and 12 other regions, with Russia firing about 70 missiles, many of them ballistic, alongside Iranian-designed Shahed drones.

Russian forces launched a major overnight missile and drone attack on Ukraine, killing at least 11 people and injuring dozens of others, including children, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy said the attacks struck residential buildings and critical infrastructure across Kyiv and 12 other regions, with Russia firing about 70 missiles, many of them ballistic, alongside Iranian-designed Shahed drones.
In a statement posted on X on Wednesday, the Ukrainian president said a residential building in Pryluky, in the Chernihiv region, was destroyed in the attack.
He said five people had been confirmed dead and 26 others injured in the strike, including five children.
“There may still be people under the rubble,” Zelenskyy said, adding that emergency responders were working at the scene to search for survivors.
“Today, as a birthday ‘gift’ to Putin, the Russian army destroyed a residential building in Pryluky, in the Chernihiv region. It was an ordinary five-story apartment building.”
The Ukrainian president also reported strikes on other major cities.
According to him, Russian missile strikes damaged five apartment buildings in Dnipro and four high-rise buildings in Kremenchuk, where two people were killed and eight others injured.
A high-rise building in Zaporizhzhia was also damaged by a drone attack, while two people were reportedly killed in Kyiv.
Zelenskyy said two additional people were killed in Oleksandriia.
He said infrastructure in Kyiv and 12 regions came under attack during the overnight bombardment, with energy infrastructure among the key targets.
“Overall, infrastructure in Kyiv and 12 regions came under attack last night. One of the key targets was our energy infrastructure,” he said.
“The Russians wanted to strike painfully and demonstratively.”
Today, as a birthday “gift” to Putin, the Russian army destroyed a residential building in Pryluky, in the Chernihiv region. It was an ordinary five-story apartment building. Tragically, as of now, five people have been reported killed and 26 injured, including five children. There may still be people under the rubble. First responders are working nonstop at the site – doing everything possible to find every person. One of the key targets was our energy infrastructure. The Russians wanted to strike painfully and demonstratively. This was one of the most vile strikes: 70 missiles in total, many of them ballistic, as well as “shaheds.” Unfortunately, only some of them were shot down. Russian ballistic missiles remain the greatest challenge. And air defense packages for us right now are a vital necessity. That is why every day we are looking for missiles for Patriot systems that can and must actually protect people’s lives here, in Ukrainian skies. Thank you to everyone who is helping us.

Zelenskyy described the attack as one of the most severe strikes against Ukraine, saying Russia used approximately 70 missiles alongside Shahed drones.
“This was one of the most vile strikes: 70 missiles in total, many of them ballistic, as well as ‘shaheds.’ Unfortunately, only some of them were shot down,” he said.
He said Russian ballistic missiles remained one of the biggest challenges facing Ukraine’s air defence system.
“Russian ballistic missiles remain the greatest challenge,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian president appealed to international partners to accelerate the delivery of air-defence equipment, particularly Patriot missile systems, which he said were urgently needed to protect civilians.
“And air defence packages for us right now are a vital necessity,” he said.
“That is why every day we are looking for missiles for Patriot systems that can and must actually protect people’s lives here, in Ukrainian skies.”
Zelenskyy expressed condolences to the families of those killed and thanked countries and organisations supporting Ukraine’s air-defence efforts.
“My condolences to all the families and loved ones of those killed. Thank you to everyone who is helping us,” he said.
The latest attack comes amid Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine, with missile and drone strikes continuing to target Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
The Ukrainian government has repeatedly appealed to its Western allies for additional air-defence systems and interceptor missiles as Russian forces intensify long-range attacks.
