Russia Launches Massive Aerial Assault On Ukraine With 400 Drones, 40 Missiles, Killing Three, Says Zelensky
The offensive, he said, has resulted in deaths, injuries, and widespread destruction across multiple regions.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of launching a large-scale aerial attack on Ukraine, involving more than 400 drones and 40 missiles.
The offensive, he said, has resulted in deaths, injuries, and widespread destruction across multiple regions.
Zelensky disclosed this in a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, describing the assault as part of Russia’s continued aggression against Ukrainian cities and civilians.
“Russia doesn’t change its stripes – another massive strike on cities and ordinary life. They targeted almost all of Ukraine – Volyn, Lviv, Ternopil, Kyiv, Sumy, Poltava, Khmelnytskyi, Cherkasy, and Chernihiv regions,” he said.
He acknowledged that Ukrainian defence forces managed to intercept some of the aerial weapons, but not all.
“Some of the missiles and drones were shot down. I thank our warriors for their defence. But unfortunately, not all were intercepted.”
Zelensky said the scale of the attack was unprecedented in recent months, adding, “In total, over 400 drones and more than 40 missiles – including ballistic missiles – were used in today’s attack. 49 people were wounded.”
He warned that casualty figures could rise as emergency efforts continue, saying, “Unfortunately, the number may increase – people are reaching out for help. As of now, three deaths have been confirmed – all of them were employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
“My sincere condolences to their families. All the necessary services are now on the ground, clearing the rubble and conducting rescue operations. All damage will definitely be restored.”
The Ukrainian president called for global action to hold Russia accountable and bring an end to the war.
He said, “We’ve done a lot together with the world to enable Ukraine to defend itself.
“But now is exactly the moment when America, Europe, and everyone around the world can stop this war together by pressuring Russia.
“If someone is not applying pressure and is giving the war more time to take lives – that is complicity and accountability. We must act decisively.”
There have been constant calls for peace and an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine, although these pleas fail to lead to ceasefire.
SaharaReporters previously reported that Russia and Ukraine agreed to another prisoner swap after a meeting in Turkey.
This was agreed upon during the second round of direct peace talks between the two countries.
Speaking on the development, Ukrainian negotiators accused their Russian counterpart of rejecting an “unconditional ceasefire.”
The Russian team said it had proposed a two-to-three-day truce “in certain areas” of the vast front line but gave no further details.
