Reps Probe $35m Brass Modular Refinery Project Over No Work In Sight

The House of Representatives has launched an investigation into the $35 million modular refinery project in Brass, Bayelsa State, amid concerns that the multi-million-dollar investment has yet to produce any visible results.

The probe followed a motion raised by Hon. Billy Osawaru, who questioned how such a huge sum could be expended on the government-backed project with little to show on the ground.

Lawmakers expressed worry over possible mismanagement of public funds and directed the Committees on Downstream and Midstream Petroleum to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the utilization of the funds and the reasons behind the project’s inactivity.

The House vowed to ensure accountability and transparency in the handling of public investments, particularly in the oil and gas sector, which remains critical to Nigeria’s economic growth.
