Report Claims Nigerian Troops Kill Over 200 JNIM Fighters in Major Niger State Operation

Reports emerging from local intelligence sources indicate that Nigerian troops have recorded a significant victory against suspected fighters of Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM) during a major military operation in Niger State.

According to the reports, security forces reportedly launched a successful ambush targeting a gathering of terrorist fighters who had allegedly converged for a high-level meeting involving a visiting commander from neighboring Mali.

Sources claim that more than 200 fighters were killed during the operation, making it one of the most substantial reported losses suffered by the group in recent times.

The reports further allege that the leader of the terrorist network in Nigeria, identified as Amir Akibu Armiya’u, narrowly escaped death during the military assault. Details surrounding his whereabouts and condition remain unclear at the time of filing this report.

While official confirmation from the Nigerian military is still being awaited, security analysts say the operation, if confirmed, could represent a major setback for terrorist activities in parts of the North-Central and North-West regions where armed groups have increasingly established links with transnational extremist networks operating across the Sahel.

The development comes amid intensified military operations targeting terrorist enclaves, bandit camps, and criminal hideouts across several states. In recent months, security forces have stepped up intelligence-driven operations aimed at disrupting terrorist movements, leadership structures, and supply chains.

Residents in affected communities have continued to call for sustained military pressure to prevent surviving fighters from regrouping and launching retaliatory attacks.

Authorities are expected to provide further details as investigations and post-operation assessments continue.
This is a developing story and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
