Prophetess in court for ‘N4.19m visa fraud’

Osun state police command, Tuesday July 21, 2026, arraigned a self-acclaimed prophetess, Bunmi Ateji Toyin, before a magistrate court sitting in Osogbo, for allegedly obtaining N4.19 million from four individuals through false pretences involving travel visa processing.

The prosecutor, ASP Akintunde Jacob, told the court that between 2024 and 2026, Toyin collected money from Oke Olubunmi Francis, Taliat Musa, Oladimeji Rasidat and Babatunde Mijisola.

The purported money reported as a total of N4,190,000, was collected with the promise of securing travel visas for them.

The prosecutor alleged the defendant was not a licensed travel agent,

knowingly obtained the money under false pretences, and failed to refund the complainants.

The alleged offences were stated as conduct likely to breach peace, fraud and were said to be punishable under Sections 419 and 243 of the Criminal Code (Cap. 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002).

After hearing both parties, the presiding magistrate, Oyindamola Daramola, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2 million, with two sureties.

The court ordered that one surety must be a registered business owner with a valid government-issued ID, and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

She held that the second surety must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 12, also with a valid government-issued ID and residency within the court’s jurisdiction.

The magistrate thereby adjourned the case to August 28, 2026 for hearing.
