Police Rescue 7-Year-Old, Arrest Painter Over ₦7m Kidnap Plot In Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 32-year-old painter, Chigozie Michael Clement, for abducting a 7-year-old boy in Alapere, Lagos, and demanding ₦7 million ransom.

The boy’s father reported the incident on August 25, after the child was taken by the suspect, who had been working for the family.

Detectives from the Command’s Special Squad I tracked Clement to Ijegun on August 27, where the victim was rescued unharmed from a locked room.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the crime, claiming financial hardship pushed him into kidnapping.

Police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest, saying investigations are ongoing to determine if he had accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, assured Lagos residents of intensified efforts to combat crime in the state.
