Police Officer Found Dead With Gunshot Wound To Chest In Abuja, Suicide Suspected

The incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Monday, September 7, 2026, at the approved static guard duty post of Eunell Engineering Company in Durumi.

Apolice officer deployed to a private engineering company in Durumi, Abuja, has been found dead with a gunshot wound to his chest while on guard duty.

The incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Monday, September 7, 2026, at the approved static guard duty post of Eunell Engineering Company in Durumi.

The deceased officer was identified as ASP Norbert Odale, with AP/No. 203734.

According to an incident report from the Mpape Police Division obtained by SaharaReporters, the police received a distress call from Police Constable Shuaibu Danjuma, who was deployed to the same guard post alongside Odale.

The report stated that Danjuma raised the alarm after Odale was found lifeless inside the security room at the location.

Police said Odale’s rifle, with breach number 07006497, was recovered at the scene along with 29 rounds of ammunition and one expended round.

His rifle chamber was reportedly found open, while the weapon was still cocked.

The police said photographs of the scene were taken before Odale’s remains were removed and deposited at Wuse General Hospital for certification and preservation.

According to the preliminary investigation, the officer was suspected to have committed suicide while on duty, although the circumstances surrounding his death remain subject to further investigation.

The incident report stated that Odale’s body was discovered after he failed to respond to knocks on the door of the security room.

“Preliminary investigation reveals X deceased is suspected to have committed suicide X while on duty at the said beat,” the report stated.

It added that efforts were ongoing to contact Odale’s family and that further developments would be communicated.

The report read in part: “The deceased was met in the pool of his blood with a bullet shot to his chest. His riffle with breach No. 07006497, 29 rounds of ammunition, one expended ammunition were all recovered at the scene.”

The police also stated that “necessary scene of incident photographs” were taken before the corpse was transferred to the hospital.
