Police Nab Native Doctor With Firearms, Ammunition Stored In Shrine
In a statement issued on Monday, the Enugu State Police Command announced that officers recovered a locally made pistol, a revolver, one expended .38-calibre shell, a live .38-calibre round, and a live cartridge during a raid on the suspect’s shrine at Ugwuochie-Iwollo in Ezeagu Local Government Area.
Operatives of the Police Special Anti-Cultism Squad have arrested a native doctor for allegedly possessing firearms and ammunition hidden in his shrine.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Enugu State Police Command announced that officers recovered a locally made pistol, a revolver, one expended .38-calibre shell, a live .38-calibre round, and a live cartridge during a raid on the suspect’s shrine at Ugwuochie-Iwollo in Ezeagu Local Government Area.
“The recovery followed the suspect’s confessional statement after his earlier arrest, as well as a subsequent raid on the shrine by our operatives,” the statement read.
The suspect also confessed to being a member of the Black Axe confraternity, police said.
The statement added that the suspect will be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigation.
Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa commended the squad for its efforts and urged officers to sustain the momentum, vowing to ensure that “Enugu State remains uninhabitable for unrepentant criminals.”
He also called on the public to continue supporting the command’s crime-fighting initiatives.
