Police Begin Investigation After Sunday Igboho Issues 2-Hour Deadline Over Abducted Victims
Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has issued a two-hour ultimatum to Fulani community leaders in Igboho, Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State, demanding the immediate release of residents reportedly abducted by kidnappers.
The ultimatum was delivered on Saturday during a meeting attended by Fulani leaders, security officials and traditional authorities at the palace of the Alepata of Igboholand, Oba Joel Olawuwo.
A video from the meeting, which has since gone viral on social media, showed Igboho expressing frustration over the growing wave of kidnappings in the community. He accused some members of the Fulani community of being connected to recent abductions, including the kidnapping of a pregnant woman, her sister and a child.
Speaking in Yoruba, Igboho warned that failure to secure the release of the victims within two hours could lead to serious consequences.
According to him, residents have become increasingly concerned about insecurity in the area, alleging that kidnappers have continued to target local inhabitants while operating from locations known to members of the community.
He further claimed that kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N300 million before reducing it to N150 million and called on Fulani leaders to assist in securing the victims’ freedom.
Igboho also urged security agencies to intensify efforts against criminal elements and warned against any form of collaboration with kidnappers.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Command has confirmed that it has commenced investigations into the viral video and the statements made during the meeting.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed that the police had obtained the video and were currently reviewing its contents as part of ongoing investigations.
The development has sparked widespread reactions across social media, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the persistent security challenges facing communities in parts of Oyo State.
