Police Arrest Suspect Behind Alleged Fake Tinubu Voice Scam in Benin

A suspect identified as Ifechukwu Dennis has been arrested by a special crack team of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) over his alleged involvement in a scheme that reportedly used a fake voice purported to be that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deceive unsuspecting victims.

The development was disclosed by presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, who revealed that the suspect was apprehended in Benin City, Edo State.

According to Onanuga, Dennis allegedly originated and circulated an audio message in which he passed off an artificial or manipulated voice as that of President Tinubu. The voice recording was reportedly used to target and mislead members of the public who believed they were receiving authentic communication from the Nigerian leader.

The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat digital fraud, impersonation, and the growing misuse of technology to deceive unsuspecting citizens.

While details surrounding the operation remain limited, Onanuga stated that the Nigeria Police Force would issue an official statement providing further information on the arrest and the investigation.

The case has once again highlighted concerns about the increasing sophistication of cybercrime and the use of artificial intelligence and voice-cloning technology by fraudsters.
