POLICE ARREST SERIAL MOTORCYCLE THIEF, TWO RECEIVERS IN EKITI

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a suspected serial motorcycle thief and two alleged receivers of stolen property, recovering seven motorcycles believed to have been stolen within the state.

The Command said operatives of its Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, made the arrests on Saturday, July 18, 2026, following credible intelligence. At about 2:00 p.m., the unit received a report that a red Bajaj motorcycle had been stolen around the Olaoluwa Muslim Grammar School Area of Ado-Ekiti, with the suspect fleeing toward the Ilawe Road axis.

According to Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, VCRU patrol officers on stop-and-search duty along Ilawe Road immediately swung into action. They sighted the stolen motorcycle, gave chase, and apprehended the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Mustapha Lekan from Osun State. The stolen bike was recovered from him at the scene.

During interrogation, Lekan reportedly confessed to stealing two motorcycles within Ado-Ekiti. Further investigation led detectives to Ilogbo-Ekiti and Ido-Ekiti, where two suspected receivers, Adebiyi Blessing and Ogunbayo Adebiyi, were arrested. Six additional motorcycles suspected to be stolen were recovered from them.

Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-led policing and rid Ekiti State of criminal elements, urging the public to continue providing timely and credible information.

CP Falade added that investigation is ongoing to identify the rightful owners of the recovered motorcycles and apprehend other members of the network. He assured that all suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
