Police arrest five suspected robbers, recover guns in Delta

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested five suspected armed robbers in separate operations in Ughelli North and Ika South local government areas of the state, recovering firearms, ammunition and other items.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Warri on Sunday.

Edafe said operatives of the CP-SAT, acting on credible intelligence, raided Ujode Community in Ughelli North Local Government Area on October 16, 2026, over the activities of a suspected armed robbery syndicate allegedly terrorising the community.

The operation led to the arrest of a 29-year-old suspect, Thankgod Ejakpomewhe, while other suspected members of the gang fled.

The police spokesman said one locally made long gun and a live cartridge were recovered from the suspect.

He added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

In a separate operation on October 15, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Ubuluku, raided a suspected criminal hideout in Alisimen Community, Ika South Local Government Area, following intelligence reports.

The operation led to the arrest of four suspects identified as Okwunzuwa Rubben, 28; John Onyeka, 42; Uzoma Ifeyinwa, 20; and Osas Atoe, 22.

Edafe said the operatives recovered a firearm described as a double-barrelled pump-action gun, a laptop, six mobile phones, a camouflage cap and a jacket during the raid.

A further search of the suspects’ residence also led to the recovery of five rounds of live ammunition, he added.

The police said investigations into the cases were ongoing.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Samuel Erale, commended the operatives for their diligence and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and curbing the illegal circulation of firearms.

Erale warned criminal elements to desist from their activities or face decisive action within the law. He also urged residents to support the police with credible and timely information to aid crime prevention and the arrest of suspects.
