‘Please Save Us’: Abducted Oyo School Principal Begs Nigerian Govt, CAN To Rescue Teachers, Students In Video
Some armed men on Friday abducted pupils and students of LA Primary School and Community Grammar School in Ahoro-Esiele Community, Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The principal of Community High School, Esiele in Oyo State, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, has appealed to the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and Nigerians to intervene and secure the release of teachers and students abducted from the school.
Some armed men on Friday abducted pupils and students of LA Primary School and Community Grammar School in Ahoro-Esiele Community, Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The attack reportedly led to the killing of a teacher, while the school principal, Mrs Alamu, two vice principals and three teachers were also abducted.
In a video recorded from captivity and seen by SaharaReporters on Sunday, Mrs. Alamu, who appeared distressed, said the attackers invaded the school around 9:30 a.m. and abducted several staff members and students.
“I am Mrs. Alamu. I am the principal of Community High School in Oyo State. On Friday, around 9:30, we were attacked by a certain group of people, and a good number of us were abducted,” she said.
“The staff and the students as well, and we have been here since Friday.”
She appealed for urgent intervention to prevent loss of lives.
“I am making this video to ask for help from everyone, starting from the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the Oyo State Government, the Christian Association of Nigeria, and all well-meaning Nigerians, that they should come to our help and settle these things peacefully, so that our lives will not be lost,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Government earlier said it had sealed off escape routes linked to the abductors following Friday’s incident in Oriire Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan on Saturday.
According to him, security agencies have confined the suspected kidnappers within the National Park axis through coordinated operations aimed at preventing their movement into neighbouring states.
“The suspected bandits have been effectively confined within the National Park axis, following coordinated security operations aimed at preventing their movement into neighbouring states,” the statement said.
Oyelade explained that security operatives were mobilised shortly after the attack to begin rescue efforts.
He said the operation involved the Nigerian Army, Civil Defence Agro Rangers and the Nigeria Police Force, including officers from the Monitoring Unit.
He added that patrol operations commenced after intelligence reports indicated that the suspects were still within the National Park area of Oyo State.
According to him, three separate patrol teams made up of Amotekun operatives and local hunters from seven local government areas in Oke-Ogun were deployed through Igbeti towards Oloka and surrounding communities.
The commissioner noted that authorities had yet to establish direct contact with the abductors, adding that efforts were ongoing to determine the exact number of pupils abducted.
“The school authorities have yet to provide accurate records of missing children,” he said.
He assured residents that the state government and security agencies were intensifying efforts to secure the safe release of the victims.
