Plane Carrying Over 240 People Crashes Near Ahmedabad, India

A Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner operating Air India Flight AI 171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick crashed on June 12, 2025, shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The jet, carrying 232 passengers and 12 crew, issued a MAYDAY before losing contact at about 625 ft altitude, roughly five minutes after departure. It plunged into the residential area of Meghani Nagar, triggering a massive fireball and sending thick plumes of smoke across the skyline  .

Emergency services responded immediately, deploying multiple fire engines and ambulances. Indian officials, including Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu and Home Minister Amit Shah, have described the situation as “shocking” and are personally monitoring rescue efforts  .
