Pastor shot dead in Adamawa as police recover AK-47 shells

A pastor, Emmanuel Ezeoikwe, has been shot dead by suspected gunmen in Zinal village, Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State, with police confirming the recovery of AK-47 shells at the scene.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at the victim’s residence. According to the Adamawa State Police Command, the incident was reported at about 6:30 a.m.

Police spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, said the gunmen invaded the village around 12:48 a.m. and opened fire on the cleric.

“On the 21st of April, 2026, at about 6:30 am, the Command received a report… that at about 12:48 am of the same date, suspected gunmen invaded the village and shot the victim.

“Upon receipt of the report, police operatives swiftly moved to the scene, where they found the lifeless body of the victim and rushed him to a hospital. He was, however, confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” he said.

Nguroje added that three empty AK-47 shells were recovered at the scene, while the remains of the deceased were deposited in a morgue for autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, has ordered a discreet investigation into the killing and deployed tactical teams to track down the perpetrators.

The police urged members of the public to remain calm and provide credible information to assist ongoing efforts to apprehend those responsible.
