Pantami wins fresh PDP governorship primary in Gombe
Isa Pantami, former minister of communications and digital economy, has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) fresh governorship primary election held across 11 LGAs of Gombe state.

The former minister polled 817 votes to defeat Khamisu Mailantarki, who secured 153 votes, and Aliyu Usman Garry, who scored 50 votes in the rerun governorship primary conducted on Tuesday.
The PDP in Gombe had fixed Tuesday, September 29, for the fresh primary following the nullification of Pantami’s earlier emergence as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election by the federal high court in Gombe.
The court, in a judgement delivered by Amina Mohammed, the presiding judge, also ordered the PDP to conduct a fresh governorship primary in compliance with its constitution, guidelines and relevant electoral laws.
The ruling followed a suit filed by Usman Garry, a PDP governorship aspirant, who challenged the process through which Pantami emerged as the party’s candidate.
In May, Pantami withdrew from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election scheduled for May 21 in Gombe.
The former minister attributed his withdrawal from the race to alleged breaches of the electoral process.
He subsequently joined the PDP and emerged as the party’s 2027 governorship candidate in Gombe.
