Panic on Kogi Highway as Bandits Lay Siege to Oshokoshoko–Obajana Road, Travellers Stranded for Hours

There was tension along the Oshokoshoko–Obajana Highway on Monday, December 1, 2025, as armed bandits reportedly blocked the busy route and left travellers stranded for several hours.

According to reports, the gunmen launched an early-morning attack, taking control of a portion of the highway and forcing motorists to abandon their vehicles. Commuters scampered into nearby bushes as sporadic gunshots filled the air.

The incident caused a massive gridlock, with long lines of vehicles stretching across both ends of the highway. Eyewitnesses described the situation as frightening and chaotic, noting that several travellers remained trapped for hours while awaiting security response.

Security operatives later arrived at the scene and were said to have engaged the attackers, eventually restoring movement along the route. However, the event has raised fresh concerns about rising insecurity along the Oshokoshoko–Obajana axis, a major link for commuters and businesses in Kogi State.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement as of the time of this report, though security patrols have reportedly been intensified in the area.
