Oyo Assembly Reconvenes As Impeachment Plot Against Makinde Emerges

It was gathered that the legislative arm had earlier suspended its sittings as disagreements and political friction intensified within the Assembly over the reported plot. However, emerging reports indicate that lawmakers have since resolved their differences and agreed to reconvene in order to continue their legislative responsibilities. TV Networks & Stations

A source within the Assembly, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that normal legislative activities would resume, stressing that members had chosen to move past the controversy and refocus on governance.

According to the source, “The House will have its plenary tomorrow (Tuesday) to streamline some issues as it affects the state. The House has put the issue of impeachment behind it. We are going to concentrate on our constitutional responsibility, which is law-making.”

The alleged impeachment plot had earlier stirred political tension across the state, following claims and counterclaims among lawmakers, some of whom publicly distanced themselves from any such move. The development reportedly contributed to the temporary suspension of plenary sessions.

Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin was at the centre of the unfolding crisis, which also saw references made to the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and Florence Ajimobi, widow of the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, now an ambassador-designate to Austria.

The controversy was further deepened by remarks attributed to former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who alleged that certain political developments within the state were linked to attempts to remove Oba Ladoja. Fayose maintained in a post on his handle that the situation was being interpreted by some observers as part of a broader political agenda targeting the traditional ruler.

With tensions now reportedly eased, the Assembly is expected to shift focus back to legislative duties and governance matters affecting the state.
