Osun Police Declare Two Men Wanted Over Killing Of Governor Adeleke’s Loyalist ‘Emir’

The suspects were identified in separate wanted notices dated October 23, 2026, as Nurudeen Iyanda Wakeeli (also known as Alowonle) and Adeyemi Ojo (popularly known as Sibi).

The Osun State Police Command has declared two men wanted in connection with the murder of Olalekan Oyeyemi Ajagungbade, popularly known as ‘Emir’.

The suspects were identified in separate wanted notices dated October 23, 2026, as Nurudeen Iyanda Wakeeli (also known as Alowonle) and Adeyemi Ojo (popularly known as Sibi).

According to the police, Wakeeli is a Nigerian national from Iwo, while Ojo hails from Ilé-Ifẹ̀ in Osun State.

In the public notices, the command described both suspects as adults of Yoruba tribe, dark in complexion, with white teeth, pointed noses, oblong heads, and black hair. They are both estimated to be about 1.70 meters tall.

The police stated that the two men are being declared wanted for their alleged role in the murder of Ajagungbade.

The command issued a stern warning to members of the public against aiding or abetting the suspects.

“Anybody that harbors the suspect will be treated by the Police as an accomplice to the crime mentioned above,” the notice read.

The police also urged citizens to provide useful information that could lead to their arrest, adding that such informants will be “handsomely rewarded.”

Members of the public with information on the whereabouts of the fleeing suspects have been urged to contact the nearest police station or call the following GSM numbers: 08039537995 or 09060052947.

The notices were signed by DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Police Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, Osogbo.

SaharaReporters had reported on September 13, 2026, the killing of Ajagungbade, a loyalist of Governor Ademola Adeleke, and the subsequent confirmation of the incident by the police.

According to an earlier report, the fatal shooting of Ajagungbade occurred on Sunday, September 13, 2026, during a violent dispute over the control of a motor park in Ile-Ife.

In a statement issued at the time, DSP Ojelabi said the police were initially alerted to an accident near Energy Filling Station in Ile-Ife, prompting the deployment of officers to restore order.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that one Olalekan Oyeyemi, also known as Emir, was shot,” the statement said.

The police added that efforts were underway to determine both the immediate and underlying causes of the shooting and to bring all those responsible to justice.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported that Ajagungbade was allegedly shot at Mayfair Garage amid a leadership tussle over the motor park.

The incident triggered swift political reactions, with Governor Adeleke ordering the immediate arrest of all individuals allegedly linked to Ajagungbade’s killing and directing rival groups to vacate motor parks across the state.

“The governor charged the Commissioner of Police to act immediately to arrest all those involved. Law and order must be maintained. There will be no sacred cows, as all culprits will be brought to book,” Adeleke said through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

The governor also ordered the reintroduction of the Park Management System across Osun State to address recurring disputes over the control of motor parks and garages. He said an executive order would be issued to formalise the new management framework.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, strongly condemned the shooting and warned against retaliatory attacks. He urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement by providing credible information to assist ongoing investigations.

A Complex Background

Ajagungbade, a member of the Accord Party, was known as a political associate of Governor Adeleke and reportedly served on the transition committee constituted ahead of the governor’s inauguration. He was also previously linked to former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

However, his political career was overshadowed by legal controversies. In July 2022, the Osun State Police Command declared Ajagungbade wanted over allegations including murder, cultism, and armed robbery.

He was later arrested by the police anti-kidnapping unit and arraigned before the Federal High Court in Osogbo in 2024 on multiple charges, including terrorism, conspiracy, and unlawful killing. He was subsequently granted bail in April 2024.

The police have stated that investigations into the September 13 shooting remain ongoing.
