Osun APC Governorship: “My disqualification is a huge joke” – Senator Iyiola Omisore*
Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former deputy governor of Osun State, Senator Christopher Iyiola Omisore, called his removal from the party’s Osun governorship primary “a huge joke.” Speaking to journalists after appearing before the APC Appeal Committee in Abuja on Saturday, Omisore accused the screening panel of partisanship, procedural violations and external pressure .
He said the panel’s report lacked credibility, noting that multiple versions were produced and that none of the disqualified aspirants had been shown the final report or told the specific reasons for their exclusion . According to Omisore, the panel chairman admitted privately that he was under pressure to disqualify the leading candidates in favour of a preferred nominee .
The APC had earlier barred Omisore and six other aspirants for allegedly failing to meet the party’s nomination requirements – specifically, the need for sponsorship by at least five financially up‑to‑date party members from each local government area . Omisore dismissed this, arguing that the party leadership has full access to the membership register and should have verified the details, adding that “he who alleges must prove” .
He expressed confidence that the National Working Committee (NWC) would overturn the decision, pointing out that the panel’s own report highlighted deep factionalisation within the Osun APC and warned the party risked losing the election ¹. All seven disqualified aspirants are expected to appear individually before the appeal panel, demanding a fair and transparent process .
