Osogbo Accord/PDP Leaders Blast Speaker Over Alleged Candidate Imposition
A crisis is brewing within the Accord Party in Osun State, as party leaders in Osogbo Local Government have openly accused the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, of trying to force a candidate on the constituency.
The allegation was contained in a press release made available to Osogbo Updates, where concerned stakeholders in Osogbo did not hold back in expressing their frustration.
According to the statement, the Speaker who hails from Odo-Otin Local Government has been interfering in Osogbo’s internal political affairs by allegedly backing Bamidele Lawal as the party’s candidate for the Osogbo State Constituency seat.
The leaders described the move as nothing short of an “act of trespass and effrontery,” insisting that it is inappropriate for a political figure from Odo-Otin to meddle in the affairs of Osogbo.
They further claimed that both party members and residents have rejected the alleged move, branding Bamidele Lawal as “unacceptable” over incompetence and arrogance.
In a direct message to the Speaker, the group accused him of disrespecting not only Osogbo’s political structure but also Osogboland generally, emphasising that local leaders remain the rightful custodians of the area’s political decisions.
“Osogbo is not a political playground for outsiders,” the statement declared, warning against what it termed legislative overreach into grassroots politics.
The stakeholders urged the Speaker to concentrate on his legislative duties and address key issues affecting the state, rather than interfering in local party matters.
They also demanded an immediate retraction of any actions or statements perceived as interference, stressing that Osogbo has the capacity to manage its own political affairs.
The unfolding situation highlights deepening divisions within the Accord Party in Osogbo, causing fears of a wider internal crisis as future elections draw closer.
