We, the Royal Fathers, heartily commend the Honourable Minister of Interior, OLUBUNMI TUNJI-OJO, for his bold approval of the take-off of the Nigeria Fire Extinguisher Control (NFEC) project, a courageous and strategic decision that aligns perfectly with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This singular action has dismantled the long-standing network of illegal activities and sharp practices that turned Nigeria into a dumping ground for fake, expired, and substandard fire extinguishers products that have contributed to avoidable loss of lives and properties across the nation.
For years, this life-saving project suffered delays and internal resistance, but with the strong leadership of the Honourable Minister and the purposeful support of the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, OLUMODE SAMUEL ADEYEMI, whose early actions in office have helped clear critical barriers, the vision is now becoming reality.
The Minister and the Controller-General have shown that putting the right people in the right positions yields results. Beyond public safety, NFEC will create over 150,000 jobs for Nigerian youths, replace faceless and illegal operators with trained and accountable vendors, boost revenue for both Federal and State Governments, and improve public fire safety knowledge through proper training.
It will also strengthen national security by blocking the misuse of fire extinguisher cylinders for criminal activities such as drug trafficking and violent crimes.
This is practical governance, economic empowerment, institutional reform, and public protection in one bold move.
We therefore urge the Honourable Minister to ensure that youths from the South-West and across the nation are given fair opportunity to benefit from this life-changing initiative and prove themselves in this path of lawful self-employment and financial independence.
