Okun Son Breaks 46-Year Jinx as Ajaokuta Steel Secures 20-Year Gas Supply Deal
AJAOKUTA, KOGI STATE – History was made earlier today as an illustrious son of Okunland, , an indigene of Ayegunle Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, signed a landmark Gas Supply Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with , securing a 20-year gas supply for Ajaokuta Steel Company.
The agreement marks a major milestone in the decades-long effort to revive the Ajaokuta Steel Plant. For about 46 years, the lack of guaranteed gas supply remained one of the biggest obstacles to attracting investors and commencing full operations.
With the signing of the agreement, that long-standing challenge has now been addressed, positioning Ajaokuta Steel Company closer than ever to full-scale production. The development is expected to boost investor confidence, create thousands of jobs, strengthen Nigeria’s industrial base, and reduce dependence on imported steel products.
The achievement has been widely celebrated as a proud moment for Okunland, with Prof. Nasir Naeem Abdulsalam’s leadership delivering a breakthrough many believed was long overdue.
