Ohanaeze Youth Leader Threatens ‘Compulsory Retirement’ For Southeast Governors, Lawmakers In 2027
In a press statement issued on Saturday, Igboayaka called for what he described as a “ballot revolution” in the Southeast, warning of a political uprising against what he called corrupt, ineffective and exploitative politicians who have controlled the region since 1999.
The President of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, has launched a fiery political warning ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that any Igbo person without a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) should be seen as “an enemy of Ndigbo.”
In a press statement issued on Saturday, Igboayaka called for what he described as a “ballot revolution” in the Southeast, warning of a political uprising against what he called corrupt, ineffective and exploitative politicians who have controlled the region since 1999.
The youth leader said there would be “no going back” on plans to use the ballot box to unseat what he described as political oppressors and profiteers across Igboland.
He lamented what he called low participation in voter registration in the Southeast despite claiming Ndigbo account for 42.8 percent of Nigeria’s population, urging Igbos across the country to convert their numbers into political power.
“If you don’t have PVC, you are an enemy of Ndigbo,” he declared, accusing non-registered eligible voters of undermining the economic and political future of the region.
According to him, the 2027 election would not be business as usual.
“It is imperative that Ndigbo, who are largely marginalized and oppressed, take proactive steps to register for a permanent Voters Card (PVC) at the nearest Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office, thereby preparing themselves for a ballot revolution, a political storm, and a tsunami that will have far-reaching consequences for all political oppressors, profiteers, and saboteurs in Igboland,” he said.
Igboayaka took direct aim at the Southeast political establishment, accusing those who have managed the region’s affairs since 1999 of looting public resources while abandoning collective development.
He said the repeated recycling of the same politicians had kept Alaigbo in what he called “political bondage and servitude.”
In one of the most explosive parts of the statement, he threatened what he described as a “compulsory comprehensive retirement from politics” for nearly all serving elected officials in the Southeast.
He singled out only two federal lawmakers, Ikenga Ugochinyere and Obi Aguocha, as exceptions, while criticizing Francis Nwifuru and Peter Mbah, saying they had “performed abysmally.”
He warned governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives and state lawmakers seeking re-election to prepare to be voted out or face humiliation at polling units.
“The Southeast will witness a fresh political dispensation, marked by the emergence of new breeds of politicians,” he said.
He also called on parents and guardians to ensure all adults from age 18 obtain their PVCs, describing voter registration as a political obligation.
Igboayaka claimed there was already a “robust arrangement” to confront those attempting to manipulate the 2027 polls and issued a chilling warning to political actors considering electoral fraud.
“Any party or politicians contemplating rigging or altering election results should prepare their will,” he said.
He added that the 2027 election would be code-named “Egwu Surugede,” which he described as an “eye for eye, tooth for tooth” response to electoral offenders.
