Obi Has Emerged, Jonathan Is Quietly Waiting”— Tinubu Ally Osoba Alleges Gang-Up
According to a report from Daily Trust on Monday, May 25, Elder statesman and prominent ally of President Bola Tinubu, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, has alleged that a major political coalition is forming in Southern Nigeria to challenge the president ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Speaking at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta, the former Governor of Ogun State claimed that the strategy involves fielding multiple candidates from the South to divide the region’s votes and reduce Tinubu’s victory margin.
Osoba raised the alarm during the announcement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary results for Ogun State. He specifically pointed to the activities of high-profile political figures from the region as evidence of this growing opposition.
“As we approach the next election, there is a strong gang-up against us,” Osoba declared. “They are plotting to field several candidates from our region in the South. Obi has emerged, Jonathan is quietly waiting in the background, and Makinde has been grandstanding. All these appear to be attempts to divide votes from the South.”
The veteran journalist dismissed the belief among some APC members that Tinubu faces no viable opposition, calling it a misleading narrative. He urged party stakeholders to remain vigilant and prepare extensively for the main election scheduled for next January.
Osoba passionately appealed to party members to mobilize the electorate for a massive voter turnout to counter the alleged southern alliance. He noted that the Tinubu administration has significantly benefited Ogun State through numerous developmental projects, urging residents to reciprocate with total electoral support.
