NSCDC Officer Arrested For Allegedly Firing Shots At Abuja Market After Traders Reportedly Assaulted His Wife

The police also said they recovered a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition from the suspect during the arrest.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a Deputy Superintendent of Corps with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), identified as Onoja Samuel, for allegedly firing gunshots into the air at a market in Kubwa, Abuja.

The police also said they recovered a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition from the suspect during the arrest.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred on October 25, 2026, at about 1:50 p.m., after the police received a distress call reporting that an unidentified man armed with a pistol was shooting sporadically into the air at the market.

Adeh said operatives attached to the Kubwa Police Division were immediately deployed to the scene and subsequently disarmed and arrested the suspect following what the command described as concerted efforts.

Preliminary investigations identified the suspect as Onoja Samuel, a Deputy Superintendent of Corps with the NSCDC.

The police explained that the suspect had gone to the market armed with a pistol following reports that some traders had assaulted his wife.

According to the statement, an argument subsequently broke out between the suspect and the traders, during which he allegedly fired several shots into the air.

“During the arrest, a CZ pistol and seventeen (17) rounds of live 9mm ammunition were recovered from the suspect,” the statement said.

The police added that the suspect remained in custody and would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

The incident has also prompted the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, to call on personnel of sister security agencies operating within the territory to exercise restraint and ensure proper coordination with the police.

Sanusi urged operatives of other security agencies who intend to carry out authorised operations within the FCT to notify the police divisions responsible for the areas concerned.

According to the command, the measure is intended to ensure effective coordination among security agencies and prevent avoidable clashes.
