Nollywood actress Shan George faces backlash over comment on Tinubu’s CCTV plan for Plateau

Nollywood actress Shan George has faced bashing on social media after criticising President Bola Tinubu’s plan to install 5,000 Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in Plateau State.
Mr Tinubu announced the plan during his visit to the state on Thursday after the Palm Sunday terrorist attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos, which left many dead.
He said the cameras would help security agencies identify and track perpetrators in real time.
Ms George, reacting to the president’s directive on her Facebook page said, “Tinubu has ordered for 5000 CCTV cameras to be installed in plateau state (sic). State wey light no dey o. A very clueless, incompetent President.”
Her statement triggered mixed reactions online, with many users attacking the actress and educating her that CCTV cameras can run on solar power.
One of the commenters, Wandey Bimbo Adesola, wrote, “Shan, was that your level of understanding? CCTV is important to be installed everywhere, especially strategic places with solar powered.”
Another user, Ola Abass, stated, “Who is more clueless between the person that doesn’t know that CCTV doesn’t need electricity to perform?”
Also, Dafidi Omo Jesse, in his reaction said, “Shan George doesn’t know there are solar-powered CCTV camera. Now, I know fame and knowledge are not the same thing.”
In his comment, Adewale Oluwaseyi, said, “It is very simple, knowledge is not a function of age. I leave it there.”
Besides, another commenter, Gaji Jacob, said “Now I understand why she no longer gets movie roles.”
Also, another facebooker, Tina Lar, said the actress’ claim that there was no electricity in Jos was false, saying “Who told you there is no light in Jos? Do you know I enjoy light in Jos more than Abuja or any other state I’ve visited?”
Howevet, some commenters back Ms George’s position.
A commenter, Nkollo Innocent Maduabuchukwu, wrote, “How do you expect him to give them light when Aso Rock is on solar. Can he give them what he doesn’t have?”
Another facebooker, Emma Chineduphantom, said it was futile connecting CCTV cameras in the state, saying “CCTV that the bandits will disconnect and vandalise in the night… It is well.”
Also, Jane Jeresa JJ, backed Ms George by arguing that Nigeria lacks the systems needed to make such technology effective, arguing that the government was acting “as if it is in the western world, where everything is digitalised and law is executed against offenders.”
Ms George has featured in several films including the 2001 movie “Outkast” and the 2008 series “Super Story.”
