Nigeria’s Anti-Drug Agency Intercepts Ketamine, Ecstasy Concealed In Water Purifier Machines From Netherlands
The illicit drug consignments, which included three kilograms of ketamine and 199 grams of MDMA (Ecstasy) pills, were discovered and seized at a courier company in Lagos on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted consignments of high-potency illicit drugs concealed inside water purifier machines shipped from the Netherlands to Lagos.
The illicit drug consignments, which included three kilograms of ketamine and 199 grams of MDMA (Ecstasy) pills, were discovered and seized at a courier company in Lagos on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.
Babafemi disclosed that in Kaduna State, anti-narcotics operatives arrested a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, alongside another suspect, Salomi Ezekiel, 38.
They were apprehended following the seizure of 100 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 1,246 kilograms from their residence in the Gonin Gora area of the state on Sunday, May 24.
In another operation along the Abuja-Kaduna highway on the same day, NDLEA officers on patrol around Jere intercepted a 30-year-old suspect, Sunusi Musa, with 380 rounds of military-grade RLA 7.62mm ammunition.
The suspect, who was travelling to Katsina State, has been handed over to the appropriate security agency for further action.
The statement read in part, “Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives in Niger State acting on credible intelligence raided a warehouse at Gidan Kukah, Bosso LGA where 457 kilograms of skunk were recovered on Wednesday 27th May and a suspect, Godwin Zakka, 46, arrested at his Gbeganu, Minna residence in connection with the seizure.
“In Enugu, operatives on patrol along Onitsha/Enugu expressway on Thursday 28th May intercepted a Taraba state-bound commercial vehicle marked JAY-158-YF. A search of the bus led to the recovery of 22,000 pills of tramadol, 100 ampoules of pentazocine and 200 grams of bromazepam while a suspect James Maigari Wisdom was arrested.”
Reacting to the developments, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), commended the officers and men of the Kaduna, Niger, Enugu, and DOGI commands for the arrests and seizures.
Marwa lauded their drug supply reduction efforts and charged them, alongside other formations across the country, to remain steadfast and not rest on their laurels.
