Nigerians React as Sowore Vows to Appoint AI as Finance Minister, Drone as Defence Minister
Omoyele Sowore has stirred debate after proposing that Artificial Intelligence should serve as Nigeria’s Finance Minister and a drone as Defence Minister if he becomes president in 2027. He said the idea would improve transparency, accountability and national security through technology.
His proposal has divided opinion on social media, with supporters arguing that many critics misunderstood the message, while others questioned how such a system would work in practice.
Human rights activist and 2027 presidential hopeful Omoyele Sowore has sparked widespread reactions after unveiling a bold governance proposal, promising to appoint Artificial Intelligence (AI) as Nigeria’s “Minister of Finance” and a drone as “Minister of Defence” if elected president in 2027.
In a post shared on X, Sowore said AI would eliminate human manipulation, waste and corruption in public finance by making transparent, data-driven decisions. He also said drones would redefine national security through modern surveillance, rapid response, precision and accountability.
The proposal quickly went viral, with many Nigerians debating whether Sowore was speaking literally or using the idea to advocate for greater use of technology in governance.
Reacting, Commr Sherif Abdulsalam asked, “Who go operate the drones.”
