Nigerian Troops, Villagers Rescue Army Officer Abducted In Delta Community
Community sources said he was discovered tied inside a canoe with gunshot wounds on his leg and hand.
A Nigerian Army officer abducted in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, Major Josiah, has been rescued by villagers and troops after he was found wounded in a forest near Tuomo community.
The officer was reportedly kidnapped on Sunday night when armed youths stormed his lodge, ransacked it, and whisked him away to the creeks of Burutu Local Government Area.

63 Brigade, on Tuesday confirmed his release.
He said, “The troops of 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army have successfully rescued a senior officer Major MD Josiah, who was abducted by gunmen in Bomadi on 8 Sep 25. The rescue operation followed collaboration and information sharing with community leaders/members of Bomadi, resulting in the rescue of the adopted senior officer.
“The senior officer, was rescued at Tuomor Waterside in Bomadi Local Government Area (LGA), in Delta State on 9 September, 2025. The rescued senior officer was however noted to have sustained gunshot wounds and has been evacuated to a medical facility for attention.
“The successful rescue operation was a testament to the Brigade’s commitment to protecting lives and property. The Commander 63 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 1, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Brigadier General MA Shonibare commended troops for their gallantry and assured the public that troops will continue to maintain peace and security in Delta State and environs.”
Community sources said he was discovered tied inside a canoe with gunshot wounds on his leg and hand.
He was found by palm-wine tappers and lumberers near the spot where the kidnappers had abandoned their vehicle.
Local residents first moved him to a nearby camp for safety before conveying him by canoe to Tuomo community.
The community subsequently alerted the military Joint Task Force (JTF), which evacuated him to a hospital for treatment.
SaharaReporters had earlier reported that armed kidnappers stormed a lodge in Bomadi, Delta State, in a midnight raid and whisked away an Army officer, identified only as Lt. Col. Josiah.
The officer, who had earlier attended a marriage ceremony in nearby Kpakiama community, had returned to his lodge at Bomadi, headquarters of Bomadi Local Government Area, when the attackers struck.
