Nigerian Army Graduates New Special Forces Battalion to Fight Terrorism
The Nigerian Army has graduated a new Special Forces battalion after six months of intensive training to strengthen counter-terrorism operations and improve the military’s response to emerging security threats. The graduation ceremony took place on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the Army’s Special Forces School in Doma, Nasarawa State.

Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, said the newly trained battalion would boost the Army’s ability to tackle threats involving drones and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). He said the move was part of efforts to improve the military’s operational capabilities against terrorist and criminal networks.
Shaibu explained that the Army’s expansion from eight to 12 divisions had increased the need for specialised forces to strengthen operational readiness. He urged the graduates to maintain discipline, precision and professionalism while carrying out their duties.
The Army chief also stressed the importance of respecting human rights, conducting intelligence-led operations and working closely with other security agencies. The graduation forms part of the military’s broader efforts to improve its response to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
