Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has praised President Bola Tinubu for removing fuel subsidy, describing the decision as courageous and saying previous presidents avoided it because of its political consequences.
He expressed confidence that Tinubu’s reforms would strengthen Nigeria’s economy, while urging the government to ensure ordinary Nigerians benefit from the resources generated.
Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has praised President Bola Tinubu for removing fuel subsidy, predicting that Nigeria’s economy will become as strong as those of the United States and the United Kingdom under the president’s reforms.

Describing Tinubu as courageous, the governor said previous administrations had been unable to remove fuel subsidy because of the political risks involved.
“Mr president is a man of courage. For many years, Nigeria has been battling to remove fuel subsidy and no president right from obasanjo or good luck Jonathan, none of them could remove subsidy,” he said.
He added that the decision could cost a president his position, claiming that the economy was already benefiting from the policy.
Okpebholo also urged the federal government to ensure ordinary Nigerians benefit from the resources generated through the reforms.Travel tips Nigeria
“The reform of Mr president is succeeding. Let the common man be the one to enjoy this money, there are so many holes that have already been created. Those holes now is what he is filing.”
The governor expressed optimism that Nigeria would recover economically as the reforms progressed.
“By the time he cements all those holes, then Nigeria will bounce back. Nigeria will be strong like America, Nigeria will be strong like England, our economy will be very strong.”
His remarks have attracted criticism and mockery from some Nigerians on social media.
