Nigeria, Poland deepen security co-operation, others 
Nigeria and Poland have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in internal security, civil protection, border management, and emergency response following high-level talks between Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and Poland’s Minister of Interior, Marcin Kierwiński, in Warsaw.
The meeting followed a recent engagement in Abuja with a Polish delegation led by Krzysztof Gawkowski, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs of Poland.
According to Tunji-Ojo, discussions focused on advancing strategic collaboration in internal security and civil protection.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing border security through improved border management, intelligence sharing, and efforts to combat transnational crime.
The two nations also agreed to strengthen fire and rescue services through the exchange of expertise, training programmes, and best practices aimed at improving emergency response capabilities.
They further pledged to build resilience in civil defence and critical asset protection to safeguard key national infrastructure and public facilities.
A major outcome of the meeting was the decision to establish a Technical Working Group that will develop a comprehensive framework for cooperation, identify priority partnership areas, set implementation timelines, and propose mechanisms for sustained collaboration.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of correctional reforms and human rights, with both sides agreeing that future cooperation would be guided by international standards and the rule of law.
Tunji-Ojo was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani; Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap; Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi; Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel; and Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche.
The minister said the partnership aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and reflects Nigeria’s commitment to adopting global best practices to enhance security and safety across the country.
