NDLEA Warns Nigerians After Intercepting Dr¥gs Hidden In Palm Oil Keg Bound For Saudi Arabia

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has warned Nigerians against accepting parcels and luggage from other people for delivery, after its operatives discovered illicit dr¥gs hidden inside a keg of palm oil meant to be transported to Saudi Arabia.

Femi Babafemi, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, raised the alarm in an X post titled “Public Alert”, alongside a video showing officers removing substances wrapped in polythene from the keg.

According to Babafemi, the consignment was given to a woman travelling to Saudi Arabia, who was asked to deliver it to another person upon arrival. However, NDLEA operatives intercepted her at the airport and discovered the concealed dr¥gs.

Warning Nigerians against accepting packages without verifying their contents, Babafemi stressed that no one should agree to carry items for another person, regardless of how close they are.

“We’ll never be tired of repeating this warning: Never accept any parcel or luggage from anyone or on behalf of anyone no matter how close you’re!” he wrote.

He further highlighted the potentially severe consequences the woman could have faced if Saudi Arabian authorities had discovered the drugs.

“She’ll have been counting her days on earth by now if this was discovered in Saudi,” Babafemi said.

The NDLEA spokesperson urged travellers to prioritise their safety and freedom rather than risk imprisonment to avoid offending friends, relatives or acquaintances who ask them to transport packages.

“Choose to offend the person than go to jail. BE WISE!” he added.

Babafemi also encouraged Nigerians to share the warning with friends and family to prevent unsuspecting travellers from being used as couriers for illicit drugs.
