NAFDAC, Security Agencies Clamp Down on Banned Alcoholic Drinks in Abeokuta
Operatives of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), in collaboration with security agencies, carried out a major enforcement operation yesterday in Akin Olugbade, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The exercise targeted the sale of banned sachet alcoholic drinks and alcoholic beverages packaged in PET bottles below 200ml, which have been prohibited due to public health concerns.
During the raid, several sellers expressed frustration, lamenting the impact of the enforcement on their businesses. Authorities, however, emphasized that the crackdown was necessary to protect public health and curb the widespread availability of unsafe alcoholic products.
This operation forms part of NAFDAC’s ongoing nationwide campaign to eliminate substandard and harmful alcoholic beverages from circulation.
