My Mum Passed On, I Didn’t Lose Her – Pastor Oyakhilome Speaks on Mothers Death

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, founder and president of LoveWorld Incorporated, has spoken publicly for the first time since the death of his mother, Deaconess Angel Oyakhilome, saying her passing should be understood as a transition rather than a loss.

Oyakhilome disclosed this on Friday while speaking during the ongoing Global Day of Prayer programme, where he revealed that his mother had died earlier that morning.

“Yesterday Friday morning, my sweet mum went to be with the Lord. You know the Bible is very clear as to where a child of God goes.”

The Christ Embassy founder said he and his siblings had spent time with their mother in the weeks before her death, describing the period as another opportunity to express his appreciation for the role she played in his life.

He said he had consistently acknowledged her influence, particularly over the past several years.

 

“For me, in the last six, seven years, there was no time I got to be with her that I didn’t appreciate her for the things you did to me.”

Oyakhilome thanked his mother for the lessons she instilled in him from childhood, including personal discipline, appearance and Christian faith.

“I will say thank you for teaching me how to brush my teeth, thank you for teaching me how to dress. I am preaching today, to the whole world, and it’s because of you and daddy.”

He also credited his parents with providing a home where he and his siblings were introduced to Christianity and taught to follow what he described as the right path.

“Thank you for giving me and my siblings a home where we could know Jesus Christ. Thank you for showing us the right path.”

 

According to Oyakhilome, there had been indications in the weeks preceding her death that his mother’s time might be near, but he continued to remind her of how grateful he was for her life and influence.

He said he would not immediately focus on giving a full account of her life, noting that there would be an appropriate time to do so.

“Today, I’m not eulogising her for the moment, there’s a time for that.”

 

Reflecting on his mother’s personality, the cleric described her as loving and remarkable, while noting that people often pointed out his physical resemblance to her.

 

“I definitely love my mum, she was amazing. She was so sweet and when you look at me, you can tell. They used to say among the children, I resembled her the most.”

Oyakhilome also addressed descriptions of him having “lost” his mother, explaining that his Christian belief shapes his understanding of death.

“Someone said Pastor Chris loses mum, no I didn’t lose mum. In Christ, you don’t lose them.”

He added: “Soon as she was absent in the body, she was immediately present with the Lord.”

The pastor said he had encouraged his siblings to remain thankful despite their bereavement, noting that many people experience the loss of their parents much earlier in life.

 

He also announced that further details concerning his mother’s funeral arrangements would be made public.
