Monarch’s Convoy Reportedly Attacked

In a statement issued on Saturday, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Shiktong Joshua Yanchi, and Global President, Prince Dr Gofor Gompwel, the group described the incident as unacceptable and called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
The Ngas Youth Movement (NYM) Global has condemned the attack on the convoy of the Ngolong Ngas, His Royal Highness Nde Jika Golit, by suspected youths in Sabon Garri community of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
In a statement issued on Saturday, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Shiktong Joshua Yanchi, and Global President, Prince Dr Gofor Gompwel, the group described the incident as unacceptable and called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
The group said the monarch’s convoy was attacked “on his return from an official function, by some youths of Sabon Garri community of Mangu Local Government Area on 1st May 2026”.
According to the group, the monarch’s convoy was attacked despite travelling in a vehicle clearly marked with “all security and royal credentials.”
The group further alleged that the attackers continued the assault even after identifying the convoy as belonging to the traditional ruler.
“To make matters worse, upon realizing that the convoy belongs to His Majesty, the Ngolong Ngas, the attackers chanted; ‘this is the type of people we are after’ and went ahead to vandalize the vehicle of our most revered Royal father,” the statement added.
The NYM linked the incident to what it described as a pattern of hostility against Ngas people in the area, citing previous attacks.
“This is one incident too many and we can no longer tolerate this barbarity,” the group said, referencing earlier claims that Ngas people were falsely accused on social media and previous attacks on prominent individuals from the community.
Describing the attack as an affront to the entire ethnic group, the NYM stated: “An attack on the convoy of His Majesty, who was peacefully returning from an official function, is a direct attack on the entire Ngas Nation; its people and every fabric that made up the land and its heritage!”
The group called on local authorities to take urgent action, urging the Chairman of Mangu Local Government Area and security agencies to apprehend and prosecute those involved.
“We are calling on the Chairman of Mangu LGA, and all authorities concerned to, as a matter of urgency, arrest and publicly prosecute the perpetrators of this dastard act,” it said, also demanding “a written apology to our royal father, and the Ngas Nation.”
The group warned that failure to bring those responsible to justice could escalate tensions.
“If the perpetrators of this despicable act are not brought to book, we will consider it as a deliberate declaration of war on the Ngas people,” the statement warned.
While reaffirming that the Ngas people are peace-loving, the group stressed that they “reserve the sole right of response to any form of unprovoked provocation from any individual or group.”
