Microfinance bank employee arraigned over alleged theft of N1.2 million
The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
A21-year-old man, Abubakar Kehinde, was on Tuesday, arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N1.2 million.
Kehinde, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and breach of peace, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between July and August at Day-by-Day Microfinance Dynamic, Ajowa Area in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant, a manager at Microfinance Dynamic, did not remit the sum of N1.2 million to the account belonging to one Azeez Basira.
He said that the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.
According to him, the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 302 and 181(1) (d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
Mr Adeniyi urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Opeyemi Esan urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would not jump bail.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case till Nov. 12 for hearing.
