Meet The longest reigning Yoruba monarch

Oba James Adelusi Aladesuru II, the Onigede of Igede-Ekiti in Ekiti State is the longest reigning Yoruba monarch. He ascended the throne on June 26, 1959, and recently celebrated 67 years as king.

The previous holder of this title, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona (the Awujale of Ijebuland), passed away in July 2025 after a 65-year reign.
