Many Passengers Reportedly Abducted As Terrorists Block, Vandalise Vehicles On Zamfara Road

Sources told SaharaReporters that the attackers blocked the road, which links communities in Maru and Gusau Local Government Areas, and disrupted movement along the route.

Suspected bandits have again attacked commuters along the Magami–Dansadau–Gusau road in Zamfara State, vandalising vehicles and destroying travellers’ belongings, with several people feared abducted.

Sources told SaharaReporters that the attackers blocked the road, which links communities in Maru and Gusau Local Government Areas, and disrupted movement along the route.

“ALERT: Bandit attacked commuters along the Magami-Dansadau-Gusau road in Maru and Gusau LGAs, Zamfara State. MANY people are feared abducted and vehicles damaged. Driving this road needs extra caution NOW,” one of the sources told SaharaReporters.

Another report on the incident indicated that the armed men had again blocked the Magami–Dansadau road, damaging vehicles and destroying belongings carried by travellers.

The latest attack has heightened concerns over the safety of motorists and passengers using the route, which has suffered repeated attacks by armed groups.

The incident comes amid renewed threats by bandits to attack vehicles travelling along the Dansadau–Gusau road.

On Wednesday, reports emerged that armed men had threatened to burn about 250 vehicles using the road, raising fears among commercial drivers, traders and other commuters who depend on the route for transportation.

The threat has added to concerns over the ability of security agencies to protect travellers along the highway, where repeated attacks have exposed road users to kidnapping, violence and destruction of property.

In May 2026, suspected bandits ambushed commuters along the Magami–Dansadau road, with reports indicating that several travellers were killed and others abducted. The incident underscored the persistent security challenges facing communities and road users in the area.

The Magami–Dansadau–Gusau corridor is an important route connecting rural communities to Gusau, the Zamfara State capital. However, repeated attacks have made travelling through the area increasingly dangerous.

SaharaReporters contacted the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, for comments on the latest attack and the reported abductions, but he did not respond to enquiries as of the time of filing this report.

Travellers have been urged to exercise caution when using the affected route amid growing concerns over their safety.
