Man goes to jail for stealing clothes on rope

A magistrate court sitting in Osogbo, Osun state, Wednesday, sentenced a 28-year-old man, Aliu Jamiu, to two months imprisonment for stealing clothes.

The convict was said to have stolen the clothes spread on rope at Legacy Hotel, Okinni, Egbedore local government of Osun state, around 9 pm on Monday, 15th September, 2025.

The police prosecutor, Oluokun Babatunde, told the court that the convict stole four T-shirts and two knickers, property of one Akanji Joshua, and thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap.34 vol. II Laws of Osun State, 2002.

The prosecutor tendered the stolen clothes and the confessional statement of the convict as exhibits before the court.

The convict who claimed to be a bricklayer and had no legal representative, admitted guilty of the crime, saying that he stole because he couldn’t afford to buy clothes.

Magistrate Adebola Odeleye thereby sentenced him to two months imprisonment with an option of N20,000 fine.
