Man dies after overnight fight at northwest Atlanta apartment complex

Police are still interviewing witnesses. So far, there’s no word on any charges.

– A man is dead after a fight overnight at an apartment complex in northwest Atlanta.

It happened at the Cortland Peachtree Battle Apartments on Peachtree Road, where police responded to a domestic disturbance involving a separated couple in the midst of a divorce.

According to investigators, the man, who was in his 30s, showed up to his wife’s apartment, where an argument escalated into a physical fight involving people who were with the wife.

Police say the man had a gun and fired two shots during the altercation. No one was hit by gunfire, but the man was killed during the fight.

When officers arrived, they found him dead in the hallway of the complex.

Authorities have not yet said how he died.

“What we know at this point is that this was a domestic dispute where the parties were separated. The deceased individual arrived at this location, started an altercation – which led to him dying at the scene,” said Andrew Smith, Atlanta Police homicide commander.

Investigators say four people were involved in total, including the man who died.

Police are still interviewing witnesses. So far, there’s no word on any charges.

Officers emphasize there is no threat to the neighborhood.
