Man Beats Neighbour To Death Over ‘Rough Play’ With Child

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old man, Edebiri Temitope, for allegedly beating his 38-year-old neighbour, Oje Michael Eje, to death during a confrontation over the man’s interaction with his three-year-old child.

Eje, a university graduate who reportedly held a degree in Guidance and Counselling, was allegedly attacked by Temitope after he hugged and played with the suspect’s child in Mowe, Ogun State.

According to the police, Temitope became angry, describing Eje’s interaction with his child as “rough play.”

The command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the arrest in a statement on Friday.

Babaseyi said the suspect allegedly grabbed a bamboo stick and repeatedly struck Eje until he collapsed and died.
“A 38-year-old university graduate, Mike Oje, was reportedly beaten to death by his neighbour in Mowe, Ogun State.
“He was accused of hugging and playing with the neighbour’s three-year-old child,” Babaseyi said.

According to the police spokesperson, the incident occurred after the suspect allegedly became infuriated by the way Eje interacted with his child.

“The father who was said to have been infuriated by what he described as Mike’s ‘rough play’, grabbed a bamboo stick, and repeatedly struck him until he collapsed and died,” he added.

Following the incident, Temitope was initially reported to have fled the area with his family.

However, the police later announced that he had been apprehended in connection with Eje’s death. “Edebiri Temitope, ‘M’, aged 43 years, who was earlier reported to be at large, has been arrested in connection with the death of Oje Michael Eje, ‘M’,” the statement said.

The police said the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

The command did not disclose whether the suspect had been formally charged to court as of Friday.
