Lucky Dube: The Tragic Death of a Reggae Legend Mistaken for a Nigerian During Carjacking
Legendary South African reggae singer Lucky Dube was shot dead by South African robbbers thinking he was a Nigerian during a carjacking attack.
On October 18, 2007, Lucky Dube had just dropped off two of his children at their uncle’s house. His children had barely gone inside when three armed robbers approached him and demanded his silver Chrysler 300C car.
Without giving him any chance to explain who he was, they opened fire at close range, shooting him through the car window.
Dube tried to drive away from the scene, but he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a nearby tree. He died shortly in the presence of his children who watched the horrific scene.
The Three robbers later confessed that they did not give him any chance to explain because they thought he was a wealthy Nigerian.
This was how the great Lucky Dube, the man who touched millions of lives with his music, breaking racial barrier, fighting against apartheid and preaching peace, unity, justice, and racial harmony with his Songs such as “Prisoner,” “Victims,” and “Together As One” was brutally murdered by South Africans thinking he was a Nigerian. He was just 43.
I don’t think there is any country that plays Lucky Dube’s songs more than Nigerians?
