Lagos Court Sentences Man To Life Imprisonment For Defiling 11-Year-Old Girl

The Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced a man, Idris Ashimiyu, to life imprisonment for defiling an 11-year-old girl.
Justice Abiola Soladoye of the court, sitting in Ikeja, delivered the judgment on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, after finding Ashimiyu guilty of a one-count charge of defilement instituted against him by the Lagos State Government.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) disclosed this in a statement posted on its X handle on Monday, November 2, 2026.
According to the agency, the court found that the prosecution had established its case beyond reasonable doubt, including evidence that the survivor was a child at the time of the incident and did not consent to the sexual act.
The survivor, who was 13 years old when she testified, told the court that she knew Ashimiyu, who helped run errands and wash cars within their compound.
She recounted how he approached her while she was outside, began touching her before subsequently defiling her.
In her judgment, Justice Soladoye said, “I have carefully considered the testimonies and other evidence before this court, including the age of the survivor, the consistency of her testimony and the issue of consent.
“I find the testimony of the survivor credible and coherent. The prosecution has established that she was a child at the time of the incident and that she did not consent to the sexual act.
“I am satisfied that the prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. I therefore find Ashimiyu guilty as charged.”
The agency added that Ashimiyu’s name would be entered in the Lagos State Sexual Offenders Register in accordance with Sections 33 and 38 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law, 2021.
He was prosecuted under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes life imprisonment for anyone who has unlawful sexual intercourse with a child.
