Lagos Court Denies KC Luxury, Two Others Bail For Alleged 184.5kg Cocaine Trafficking

The court also noted that the prevalence of hard drug trafficking had become a menace to society.

The Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos State, has denied the bail applications of a businessman, Afolabi Michael Kazeem, popularly known as KC Luxury, and two other defendants standing trial over alleged cocaine trafficking and related offences.

Justice Musa Kakaki rejected the applications after considering the gravity of the alleged offences, the severity of the potential punishment if the defendants are convicted, and the likelihood that they might jump bail.

The court also noted that the prevalence of hard drug trafficking had become a menace to society.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had arraigned the three defendants on a 21-count charge relating to alleged cocaine trafficking and other offences.

KC Luxury is the principal defendant in the case and is named in 21 of the 22 counts, while the other defendants are Boniface Sule and Ikechukwu Ekugo.

All three defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

KC Luxury was arrested on August 13, at the departure hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while allegedly attempting to travel to Paris, France.

His arrest followed the seizure of 184.5 kilogrammes of cocaine at a DHL facility in Ikeja, Lagos, with the NDLEA alleging that the businessman was connected to the shipment.

According to the allegations surrounding the case, KC Luxury conspired with two other individuals, Atandare Oladipupo Oluwarotimi and Latifat Yusuf, who were said to have been arrested in London in connection with the same investigation, to export the narcotic drugs.

The prosecution’s allegations further link the shipment to the use of the pseudonym Yemi Ejide, which was used in connection with the consignment attributed to KC Luxury.

The court has adjourned the matter for further hearing from Monday, November 2, to Thursday, November 5, with proceedings scheduled to hold daily during the period.
