Lagos APC Expels Former Local Government Chairman Over Alleged Anti-party Activities
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled former Agege Local Government chairman Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf over alleged anti-party activities and disloyalty.
The party announced the expulsion in a statement on Wednesday, saying the two former members had breached its rules after contesting its 2026 House of Assembly nomination process.
Egunjobi and Yusuf contested the APC tickets for Agege Constituencies I and II respectively before subsequently securing tickets to contest the seats on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). PUNCH had earlier reported that the duo defended their decision to leave the APC and denied that their defection was linked to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.
The Lagos APC said their decision to seek another party’s ticket after participating in its nomination process amounted to anti-party activity and a breach of their obligations as members.
The party said their purported resignations from the APC were “nothing more than a belated and face-saving attempt” to avoid the consequences of their actions.
According to the statement, members who lose internal contests are expected to accept the outcome or pursue available avenues of redress within the party and under the law, rather than seek an alternative platform during the same electoral cycle.
The APC said it had consequently invoked Article 9(5)(II) of its 2022 amended constitution in taking disciplinary action against the two politicians.
The party declared that Egunjobi and Yusuf were no longer members of the APC and had no authority to speak for, represent or transact business on behalf of the Lagos State chapter or the national party.
“The APC is a Party of rules. Its tickets are contested, its decisions are respected, and its integrity will be protected,” the statement said.
The party also warned its members, supporters and the public against dealing with either politician as an authorised representative or agent of the APC.
The development comes amid preparations for the 2027 general elections and follows the duo’s move to the APM after the APC’s nomination process for the Agege constituencies.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has published its 2026 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties and has stressed the importance of compliance with the electoral framework and internal party processes ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Lagos APC said it would continue to take steps to preserve party discipline and cohesion ahead of the forthcoming elections.
