Lady Shares Ordeal After Pastor Allegedly Urges Her to Donate ₦780,000 During Counselling Session

A Nigerian woman identified as @TalkswithAkwa on X, formerly Twitter, has recounted an encounter during a church counselling session in which a pastor allegedly urged her to donate money she had saved for her flight fare.

In a post that has attracted reactions online, the woman claimed that the pastor told her the Spirit of God was around her before asking how much she had in her bank account.

According to her account, she told him she had ₦75,000, while keeping ₦780,000 aside for her flight expenses.

However, she alleged that the pastor encouraged her to donate the entire ₦780,000.

The woman said she subsequently went to the church cashier and made the donation, receiving a receipt for the transaction.

After presenting the receipt to the pastor, who prayed for her, she left the church feeling regretful about her decision.

Her account has since sparked discussions on social media about religious giving, financial pressure and the importance of making voluntary decisions when donating to places of worship.

The post attracted mixed reactions, with several users expressing sympathy for the woman and criticising the alleged approach.

One user, Big Silvo, wrote: “Eyaaa, sorry dear. All this people calling themselves man of God up and down are thiefs.”

Another commenter, Yummy Chows, remarked: “You even have luck that you didn’t start the full amount. He would have asked you to sow all.”

Nwata suggested that the incident involved manipulation rather than supernatural influence, writing: “Lol, he didn’t use juju. That’s manipulation. They’re good at it.”

Blessking also emphasised the importance of voluntary giving, stating: “Fear should never be used to pressure people into giving away their hard-earned money. Faith should bring peace, not financial exploitation.”

The incident has reignited conversations about financial boundaries in religious settings and the need for worshippers to make informed decisions about their personal finances. The pastor’s account of the incident was not included in the woman’s post as presented.
